Abstract:

The recent reports on electroacupuncture in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) at home and abroad show an increasing trend, which promotes the clinical application and enriches the theory of acupuncture and moxibustion. Electroacupuncture therapy involved in such research reports mainly includes simple electroacupuncture therapy and compound therapy of electroacupuncture combined with moxibustion, drugs, manipulation and other treating methods. By searching the recent relevant literature, the clinical application of electroacupuncture in the treatment of KOA was summarized, and the possible therapeutic mechanism was summarized as well from two directions of biochemistry and biomechanics. Shortcomings of the current research were set out to provide ideas and references for its clinical application and further experimental research. According to the reports, electroacupuncture treatment has advantages of accurate curative effect and convenient operation in the treatment of KOA. In practical application, it can be combined with other therapies according to clinical needs to achieve better therapeutic effects.
