Abstract:

Objective

To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture with the continuous wave and the disperse dense wave used to treat peripheral facial paralysis.

Methods

A total of 200 patients with peripheral facial paralysis, admitted to the Department of Acupuncture and Rehabilitation, Dujiangyan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2017 to December 2019, were randomly divided into two groups: a continuous wave group and a disperse dense wave group, with 100 cases in each group. The House-Brackmann facial nerve grading system was applied in conjunction with the clinical symptoms. The effectiverates were analyzed and compared with χ2 test.

Results

In the continuous wave group, 72 cases were cured, 15 cases improved, 10 cases ineffective, and the total effective rate was 89.7% (87/97); In the disperse dense wave group, 79 cases were cured, 14 cases improved, 5 cases ineffective, and the total effective rate was 94.9% (93/98). The difference between the two groups was insignificant (χ2=2.02, P>0.05).

Conclusion

Electroacupuncture with the continuous wave and the disperse dense wave can both be used to treat peripheral facial paralysis.
