Abstract:

Objective

To observe the effect of floating acupuncture combined with rehabilitation exercise on improving the pain situation and shoulder joint mobility of patients with shoulder periarthritis.

Methods

100 patients with acute shoulder periarthritis who were treated in the acupuncture clinic of Changzhou Third People′s Hospital from August 1st 2019 to January 31st 2020, were divided into an observation group and a treatment group with 50 cases each. The observation group was treated with floating needles coordinated with rehabilitation exercise, once/2 days, a total of 10 treatments; the control group took oral drugs for 7 days and self-recovery exercise for 3 weeks. The visual analogue scale(VAS) scores and flexion, abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation activities of the two groups were compared. The comparison of the VAS scores, shoulder flexion, abduction, external rotation activities before and after treatment was performed using self-paired t test, and the score comparison between groups was performed using two independent sample t test.

Results

(1)After treatment, the VAS score of the observation group (1.06±0.07) was lower than that of the control group (2.35±0.90), t=3.646, P<0.05.(2) Intra-group comparison before and after treatment: The range of motion of shoulder joint flexion, abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation after treatment was significantly different from that before treatment (observation group: t=25.798, 21.740, 20.338, 24.466 , all P<0.05; control group: t=15.032, 14.096, 17.095, 10.724, all P<0.05). (3)Comparison between groups: After treatment, the scores of shoulder joint flexion, abduction, and external rotation were observed higher than the control group scores(t=6.169, 6.115, 5.810, all P<0.05).

Conclusion

Floating acupuncture with rehabilitation exercise under guidance is one of the methods to improve the pain symptoms and mobility of patients with shoulder periarthritis.
