Clinical application of a self-made Shu neck pain decoction combined with silver needle treatment for cervical spondylosis

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of neck pain Shu decoction in the treatment of cervical spondylosis with topical silver needle.

Methods

A total of 82 cervical spondylosis patients,were slected from February 2013 to February 2014 in orthopedics and traumatology, Jiangning district hospital of traditional Chinese medicine in nanjing city.Patients were divided into Jingshu Zhitong decoction treatment group (n=27), silver needle acupuncture treatment group (n=30), Shujing Zhitong decoction combined with silver needle treatment group (n=25). After 4 weeks of treatment, the functional and pain scores were statistically analyzed and compared between three groups. The efficacy was evaluated by cured, markedly effective, effective and ineffective. SPSS17.0 statistical software was used to analyze data. The clinical efficacy was compared using rank sum test. The efficiency was compared using χ2 test. P values less than 0.05 was used as statistically significant.

Results

The effective rates were 100% (25/25), 100% (30/30)and 92.6% (25/27) for Shujing Zhitong decoction combined with silver needle treatment group, silver needle therapy group and Shu neck pain decoction group. There were no significant differences in clinical curative effect, effective rate and efficacy between three groups (Z=1.950, P=0.377).

Conclusion

There is no significant difference in the curative effect of cervical spondylosis between three groups.
