Abstract:
Objective
To investigate the clinical efficacy of the three-step cupping method combined with acupuncture for the treatment of frozen shoulder.
Methods
A total of 30 patients with frozen shoulder were collected in the second teaching hospital of tianjin university of traditional Chinese medicine. The average age of patients was(51.33 ±3.56) years old, the oldest was 55 years old, and the youngest was 45 years old.The shortest disease duration was one month; the longest was more than one year.Use the three-step cupping method combined with acupuncture therapy, the location for cupping was infraspinatus muscle, deltoid and other shoulder muscles. The main acupuncture points were Jianyu (LI 15), Jianliao(SJ 14), Tian Zhong(SI 11), Jian Jing(GB 21).American Shoulder and Elbows Society(ASES) scoring system and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) score were used to test before and after treatment.Data was expressed as P50(P25, P75).Non parametric test for two related samples was used as the statistical method.P<0.05indicates significant difference between the two groups.
Results
Twenty-three cases of the 30 patients cured,5 cases were markedly effective and one case was invalid. The total effective rate was 96.7%(29/30).The cured patients accounted for more than 76.7%(23/30) of the total patients. There was a significantly higher ASES score after treatment than that before treatment(Z=4.78,P<0.05).VAS score was significantly lower after treatment than that before treatment(Z=4.74,P<0.05).
Conclusion
The three-step cupping method combined with acupuncture can significantly relieve local pain, joint activity limitation and other symptoms caused by frozen shoulder.
