Abstract:

Objective

To observe the clinical effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao needling method combined with contralateral puncture on migraine.

Methods

A total of 100 patients with migraine, who were hospitalized in the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from March 2007 to January 2012,were randomly divided into two groups including treatment group(treated with Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture and contralateral puncture,50 cases)and control group(treated with contralateral puncture,50 cases). In treatment group, there are 24 male and 26 female, the oldest patient was 60 years old and the youngest 18[average age:(28.3±0.6)years old],and the shortest course of the disease was half a year and the longest 30 years[average duration:(10.2±0.3)years].In control group, the oldest patient was 60 years old and the youngest 18[average age:(11.2±0.5)years old],and the shortest course of the disease was half a year and the longest 30 years[average duration:(11.2±0.5)years].Cases in treatment group were treated with Xingnao Kaiqiao Acupuncture combined with contralateral puncture, while cases in control group were only treated with contralateral puncture. The number of headache episodes, headache severity, duration of headache and accompanying symptoms were observed before and after treatment in two groups. Results were assessed by t-test of independent sample between two groups. The efficacies before and after the treatment within each group were evaluated by paired t-test.

Results

The totally effective rates were 94.0%(47/50)in treatment group and 82.0%(41/50)in control group. There were significant difference in the effective rate between two groups(P﹤0.05).There were better curative effects on number of headache attacks, headache severity and duration of headache in treatment group than those of control group(t=16.918,17.021,17.538,all P﹤0.05).There were significant differences in the accompanying symptoms and the total score between treatment and control groups(t=17.521,17.598,all P﹤0.05).

Conclusion

Xingnao Kaiqiao needling method combined with contralateral puncture is a satisfactory curative effect in treating migraine.
