Abstract:

Objective

To observe the clinical effects of ear acupoint therapy combined with acupuncturing three hand-points and three shoulder-points in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy(CSR).

Methods

84 patients with CSR who were treated in Chinese medicine clinic and inpatient department of the Hospital Affiliated to Logistics College of Chinese People's Armed Police Force from September 2015 to July 2016 were randomly divided into acupuncture group and ear acupoint group (n =42).The patients were treated for three courses with continuous therapy, and before and after treatment all patients were graded with Tanaka Yasuku Cervical Spondylosis Symptoms Scale and the degree of the upper limb numbness in complaints respectively for comparison. The scores of Tanaka Yasuku Cervical Spondylosis Symptoms Scale and the degree of the upper limb numbness in complaints after treatment of the two groups were compared with two independent sample t-tests;the scores of them before and after treatment in the two groups were compared with paired t-test;the therapeutic effects in the two groups were compared with theχ2 test.

Results

With the Symptoms Scale scores(18.87 ±2.23)and (15.67 ±2.43)respectively,the score of the ear acupoint group was higher than that of the acupuncture group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(t=5.012,P<0.05).With the numbness degree scores(3.34 ±0.87)and (4.46 ±1.03)respectively,the score of the ear acupoint group was lower than that of the acupuncture group, and the difference was statistically significant(t=5.123,P<0.05).The total effective rate of the ear acupoint group was 92.85% (39/42)with 20 cases cured, showing significantly effective in 13 cases, effective in 6 cases, ineffective in 3 cases. The total effective rate of the acupuncture group was 76.19%(32/42)with 14 cases cured, showing significantly effective in 9 cases, effective in 9 cases, ineffective in 10 cases. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(χ2 =4.459,P<0.05).

Conclusion

The therapeutic effects of ear acupoint therapy combined with acupuncturing three hand-points and three shoulder-points in the treatment of CSR are significant.
