Clinical observation on curative effect of acupuncture treatment for intractable hiccup by modulating fu and qi

Abstract:

Objective

To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture treatment for intractable hiccup by modulating fu and qi.

Methods

A total of thirty patients from the first teaching hospital of Tianjin University of traditional Chinese medicine were randomly divided into treatment group (n=15) and control group (n=15). The treatment group was given acupuncture treatment, and control group was treated with metoclopramide through intramuscular injection. The curative effect was evaluated after 7-time treatments. The effective rates were compared between two groups by using Wilcoxon rank sum test.

Results

9 patients were cured, 4 patients were improved and 2 patients were no effect in treatment group. The total effective rate was 86.7% (13/15) .In control group, three patients were cured, 4 were improved and 8 were no effect, and the total effective rate was 46.7%(7/15).There was significant difference between two groups (Z=-2.5,P<0.05).

Conclusion

The treatment of acupuncture for intractable hiccup is effective by modulating fu and qi.
