The collateral disease theoryis based on the theory of meridian and collaterals, and its further supplement and development. As an important part of the theoretical system of Chinese medicine, the collateral disease theory developed greatly to improve its diagnosis and treatment system in recent years. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is characterized by disease differentiation, syndrome differentiation, and meridian differentiation, however, as an important research achievement in modern Chinese medicine, the application of collateral disease theory in acupuncture and moxibustion appears to be relatively insufficient. In view of this, Professor Wang Jianming put forward the theory of " location differentiation and treatment" based on his years′ of clinical experience and under the guidence of collateral diseases theory. This theory includes using same treatment for same disease location, and using different treatments for different disease locations, and this theory was clinical effective. On the basis of the theory, the clinical methods, prescriptions, acupoints and techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion were unified and controlled, and the concepts of space, combination of acupuncture treatment and disease were put forward, which would provide new ideas and methods for clinical diagnosis and treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion.
