Abstract:

To study the content of acupuncture reinforcing and reducing methods in Techniques ofAcupunctureandMoxibustion published by China Press of Chinese Traditional Medicine and People's Medical Publishing House in accordance with the Twelfth Five-year Plan.The studies on twirling and rotating the needle，lifting and thrusting the needle，rapid and slow insertion and withdrawal of the needle，respiration and keeping the holes open or close include three aspects：the earliest original documents，analysis of different description in textbooks and analysis insights.In the textbook，to operate reinforcing and reducing method by twirling and rotating is to hold the needle handle by the thumb and index finger and keep still of the latter，against which twirl and rotate the needle by thumb.The manipulation of this kind can not only extrude the direction of applying force，but also distinguish from other reinforcing and reducing method easily.With regard to reinforcing and reducing method by lifting and thrusting needle，the textbook published by China Press of Chinese Traditional Medicine stresses that should be manipulated by small degree in deqi-area，without mentioning the layer of operation，while in accordance with the textbook published by People's Medical Publishing House，the reinforcing method should be manipulated from the shallow layer to the deep one，and the reducing method，from the deep layer to the shallow one，emphasizing the operation layer.Concerning reinforcing and reducing method by rapid and slow insertion and withdrawal of the needle，the rapidness and slowness can be reflected by inserting and withdrawing the needle in different layers.As to operating reinforcing method of slow insertion and rapid withdrawal of the needle，the needle can insert layer by layer from tian-level to di-level and withdraw the needle from di-level to tian-level at once，while insert the needle from tian-level to di-level at once and withdraw the needle from di-level to tian-level layer by layer to operate reducing method of rapid insertion and slow withdrawal of needle.As to the reinforcing and reducing method reached by respiration and keeping the holes open or close，we focus on the different descriptions of manipulation in the two edition textbooks.
