Abstract:
Objective
The aim of this study is to evaluate the curative efficacy and role of improving the quality of life in the treatment of malignant ascites with ShenQue（RN8）moxibustion of WenYangSan in combination with chemotherapy.
Methods
A total of 37 cases of ascites treated in the department of oncology，the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were included in this study and randomly assigned into three groups：12 cases in negative control group received the abdominal cavity drainage，12 cases in positive control group received the abdominal cavity drainage and cisplatin（DDP）40 mg/m2，and 13 cases in study group received the abdominal cavity drainage and DDP 40 mg/m2 combined with ShenQue（RN8）moxibustion of WenYangSan.The volume of ascites and long-term quality of life assessment（KPS）score were observed and recorded before and 28-day after treatment.Values of KPS score before being into groups were considered as measurement data，and were analyzed by single-factor analysis of variance.The curative effect and KPS score of ascites were counting data and were analysed by exact probability method.
Results
In study group，10 cases were effective，2 cases were ineffective，and the total effective rate was 83.33%（10/12）.In negative control group，2 cases were effective，10 cases were invalid，and the total effective rate was 16.67%（2/12）.In positive control group，8 cases were effective，5 cases ineffective，and the total effective rate was 61.54%（8/13）.In study group，10 cases were totally improved，2 cases were no improvement，and the total improvement rate was 83.33%（10/12）.In negative control group，4 cases were totally improved，8 cases were without improvement，and the total improvement rate was 33.33%（4/12）.In positive control group，9 cases were totally improved，4 cases showed no improvement，and the total total improvement rate was 69.23%（9/13）.The curative effect of ascites and quality of life was much better in study group than those of negative control group，the difference was statistically significant（x2=10.667，6.171，P＜0.05）.
Conclusion
ShenQue（RN8）moxibustion of WenYangSan in combined with chemotherapy for malignant ascites has certain control effect，and can improve the patient's quality of life，providing effective ways for palliative care in patients with ascites.
