Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical effect of Hunyuan moxibustion on the changes of carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in patients with yang deficiency type hypertension and carotid atherosclerosis (CAS).
Methods A total of 60 patients with yang deficiency type hypertension and CAS from January 2021 to June 2022 were selected from Nanchang Hongdu hospital of traditional Chinese medicine. 60 CAS patients were randomly divided into Hunyuan moxibustion group (30 cases) and the control group (30 cases) using a random number table method. The control group was treated with oral Amlodipine Benzenesulfonic acid tablets, 5 mg, once a day, for 8 weeks. The Hunyuan moxibustion group was treated with Hunyuan moxibustion on the basis of the same medication, the moxibustion therapy was performed 5 times per week, for a total of 8 weeks. After 8 weeks of treatment, the changes in the yang deficiency quality scale score and carotid IMT of two groups before and after treatment were observed, thus to evaluate the antihypertensive efficacy.
Results The Hunyuan moxibustion group, 13 cases (43.3%) were effective, 15 cases (50.0%) were effective, 2 cases (6.7%) were ineffective, and the total effective rate was 93.3%(28/30). In the control group, 10 cases (33.3%) were effective, 14 cases (46.7%) were effective, 6 cases (20.0%) were ineffective, and the total effective rate was 80.0%(24/30). The difference of antihypertensive efficacy between the two groups was statistically significant (χ2=7.25, P< 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the scores of yang deficiency quality scale and carotid intima-media thickness between 2 groups after treatment (t=29.10, 2.00, P< 0.05).
Conclusion The Hunyuan moxibustion on treating CAS patients is effective and safe, which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
