An introduction to the historical evolution of moxibustion taboos

Abstract:

As an important part of traditional Chinese medical therapies，moxibustion plays a significant role in clinical practice. Though it's safe and effective，the ancient doctors still summarized and recorded numerous contraindications of moxibustion in clinical practice. The contraindications，which avoided and prevented a large number of potential medical malpractices in the history，have a great deal of medical value. However，with the development of acupuncture and moxibustion，the accumulation of experience through the ages，the application of the clinical practice，the enhancement of theory，and the improvement of techniques，the contraindications of moxibustion have undergone a historical evolution. To explore the historical evolvement of the contraindications of moxibustion by summarizing the contraindications of acupoints and indications recorded in the documents at different ages.
