Review of research in the relationship between estrogen and migraine

Abstract:

There is a close relationship between female sex hormones and migraine. Estrogen levels may lead to gender differences in the incidence of migraine. Many epidemiological and pathophysiological studies investigate the relationship between estrogen and migraine. This review discusses the mechanisms and related findings regarding estrogen and migraine in three aspects,including the estrogen-induced migraines may be caused by the imbalance in homeostasis of trace substances,the gene of estrogen receptor may influence the susceptibility of migraine and estrogen replacement therapy can be used for migraine.
