Abstract:

Acupuncture treatment has been proven effective for improving the limb function in ischemic stroke, but its central mechanism of action remains unclear. Magnetic resonance imaging offers detailed information on soft tissue structure, function, and metabolism, which can provides technical support for exploring the central mechanism of acupuncture for limb dysfunction after ischemic stroke. By reviewing the recent 5-year literature on the neuroimaging aspects of acupuncture for the treatment of limb dysfunction after ischemic stroke, it was found that acupuncture can improve the limb motor function of patients mainly by modulating the autonomic nerve activity of motor function areas, promoting the functional connectivity of M1, and restructuring the brain tissue structure. In the future studies should try new imaging techniques and data analysis methods, and strictly control the acupuncture variables to explore the central mechanism of acupuncture for limb dysfunction post-ischemic stroke from a multifaceted perspectives.
