Abstract:

Consciousness-restoring resuscitation acupuncture method (Xingnao Kaiqiao) was created to treat apoplexy in 1972 by China′s famous traditional Chinese medicine expert and educator Professor Shi Xuemin, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the National Physician Masters. The method has been applied in clinical practice for more than 40 years, and has shown its remarkable curative effects in treating diseases including stroke.A large number of clinical observation and experimental studies show that the method makes positive adjustment to body systems with diseases. What′s more, application of this method is not limited to treating stroke. In fact, it shows significant curative effect in treating most cerebral palsy or paralysis (such as infantile cerebral palsy, carbon monoxide poisoning, cerebral trauma etc.), severe pains (such as neuralgia, visceral pain, injury pain and cancer pain, etc.), mental illness (such as manic depressive psychosis, depression, lily disease and hysteria, etc.), and diseases in other systems(such as diabetes insipidus, enuresis and incontinence, etc.). This paper discusses Professor Shi Xuemin′s creative contribution to the traditional Chinese medicine treatment of encephalopathy, from the aspects ofthe understanding of " brain governing consciousness" , establishing of the consciousness-restoring resuscitation acupuncture method, and founding of the new theory of pathogenesis on stroke.
