Abstract:

Objective

To observe the clinical efficacy of fire needle combined with Chinese medicine in the treatment of hemifacial spasm.

Methods

A total of 40 patients with hemifacial spasm from the acupuncture and moxibustion clinic of the second affiliated hospital of Tianjin university of traditional Chinese medicine from October 2016 to June 2018 were selected. They were randomly divided into treatment group and control group according to the number, 20 cases in each group. The treatment group was treated with fire needle combined with traditional Chinese medicine, and the control group was treated with oral carbamazepine. After treatment, the difference in spasm intensity between the two groups was compared by rank sum test, and the difference of clinical efficacy between the two groups was compared by χ2 test.

Results

After treatment, the difference in spasm intensity between the two groups was statistically significant (Z=2.01, P<0.05). The control group was cured in 2 cases, markedly effective in 4 cases, effective in 6 cases, and ineffective in 8 cases. The total effective rate was 60% (12/20). The treatment group was cured in 11 cases, markedly effective in 5 cases, effective in 2 cases, ineffective in 2 cases, and total effective rate. 90% (18/20). The total effective rate of the two groups was compared, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=4.8, P<0.05).

Conclusion

Combination of fire needle and traditional Chinese medicin in the treatment of hemifacial spasm can effectively improve the intensity of hemifacial spasm and improve the clinical efficacy.
