Abstract:

Objective

The objective of this study was to observe the clinical curative effect of laser acupuncture treatment for mental retardation in children with language barrier.

Methods

Forty children with mental retardation and comorbid language barrier hospitalized in rehabilitation department of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Nanhai Women and Children's Hospital from October 2013 to October 2014 were selected, and then divided into treatment group(n=20) and control group (n=20) according to random number table. The treatment group received laser acupuncture treatment on the basis of the basic rehabilitation combined with language training, while the control group was treated with basic rehabilitation combined with language training, once every other day. Twenty days made up one course, and three consecutive courses were observed in two groups. Beijing Gesell language development quotient (Gesell language DQ) was used for data analyze before and after treatment in two groups. The chi-square test was used for efficient comparison. Data of Gesell language DQ before and after treatment were measurement data, and expressed with .Data of Gesell language DQ within groups before and after treatment were compared with paired samples t-test, while two independent sample t-test was used between two groups. P<0.05 denotes the difference possessing statistical significance.

Results

The total effective rate was 85% (17/20)in treatment group. The total effective rate was 55% (11/20) in control group. There was a significant difference in the total effective rate between two groups (χ2=4.28, P=0.04 ). The Gesell language DQ was significantly higher in treatment group than that of the control group after treatment ( t=2.507,P=0.02 ).

Conclusion

laser acupuncture treatment shows better curative effects on mental retardation children with language disorder, which is worth the clinical promotion.
