Abstract:

The ultimate goal of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)and automated external defibrillation (AED)are to save life in critically ill patients with cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest and unconscious through the reconstruction of sinus rhythm.CPR and AED are trying to squeeze as much as possible oxygen and blood flow from outside to reconstruct sinus rhythm by external shock or electric defibrillation. As we know, unconsciousness occurs within 10 s after cardiac arrest, suggesting that brain has left adenosine triphosphate and glycogen. It is possible to reverse the brain from the unconscious state.Clinical experiences of traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years suggest that acupuncture emergency points such as point GU26(Renzhong),point GB20 (Fengchi),point PC6 (Hegu),point LI4 (Neiguan)and point RN4(Guanyuan)can restore brain consciousness and internal reconstruction of sinus rhythm to make patients out of danger. Therefore, when we do the emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation, acupuncture should be used as pre-link parts and become the constituent part of CPR.
